New Mexico Activities Athletic Association moves up the Saturday Raton at St. Michael’s and West Las Vegas at Robertson football game from the scheduled 1:30 kickoff to noon due

Why were the Saturday afternoon high school football games switched in time?
Well, that answer came from the New Mexico Activities Association. That same day it was piecing together the state football seedings, and because of that needed an earlier start for the game at the Christian Brothers Activities Complex as well as the crosstown tilt matching West Las Vegas at Robertson.
So from the scheduled 1:30 kickoff for both, it became a noon start for both,
with Raton visiting St. Michael’s.
But no change on the weekend state soccer tournament schedule. There are three first round matches Friday and six more on Saturday.
St. Michael’s, Santa Fe High and Los Alamos are represented in both genders, with the 3rd-seeded Lady Horseman’s defending 1A/3A champions at 13-4playing host to No. 6 East Mountain (12-6-1) at 4 o’clock this afternoon, and in a 1A/3A boys game, it will be No. 2 Santa Fe Prep (11-2-1) home to No. 7 Monte del Sol (7-5) in a Santa Fe area paring at 4:30.
In the other match today, it’s the top-seeded Santa Fe High (19-1) taking on visiting No. 9 Albuquerque Volcano Vista (14-5) at 5:30.
As for 5A, the Demonettes girls are No. 1-ranked and will open Tuesday. But in 4A girls on Saturday, it’s No. 5 Artesia (15-4-1) visiting No. 4 Los Alamos (12-5-2) in a noon start. In a 10:30 a.m. girls start in 1A/3A, No. 4 Robertson (12-5-2) gets a visit from No. 5 Albuquerque Bosque School (6-9-1).
As for the boys that day, in 1A/3A, 6th-seeded St. Michael’s (9-7-1) travels to 3rd-seeded New Mexico Military Institute (13-4-1) for a 4 p.m. start, and also in 1A/3A, 8th-seeded Tierra Encantada (7-5) doesn’t have to travel far as it plays at top-seeded Santa Fe Prep, which has won 18 of 20 matches, with a slated 2 o’clockstart.
Also in 4A, the No. 6 Albuquerque Highland (13-4-2) boys visit No. 3 Los Alamos (15-4-1) in a 2 p.m. start, while also in 4A boys, No. 8 Taos (9-9) heads for No. 1 Lovington (17-1) for a 2 p.m. start.
