St. Michael’s girls lose 75-31

It was over early and Bernalillo’s girls basketball team was as good as  advertised
Undefeated in 10 starts, the 2nd-ranked 4A Spartans had no trouble running off with Wednesday’s 75-31 non-district romp at St.Michael’s, with the Lady Horsemen dropping to 3-7 overall.
Having another huge game was 5-foot-7 senior point guard Juliana Aragon, with the state’s leading scorer tossing in 32 points, handing out 10 assists, and not committing any turnovers. She had 14 field goals that included four 3s on eight tries.
St. Michael’s junior point guard Lauryn Pecos had the team-high nine points that included a pair of 3s.
Capital’s girls also dropped a non-district contest when a visit to Rio Rancho Cleveland brought a 59-18 setback, as the Jaguars fell to 3-9 and the Storm advanced to 8-4 overall. Capital plays next on Jan. 4at Los Alamos.
In this game, the Jags failed to score in the first eight minutes and Cleveland bolted to a 21-0, touchdown-style lead, and was on top 28-8 at halftime, and extended it to 48-16.  Senior Abriana Mares had the team-high eight points for Capital.
In a non-district boys overtime game played at Espanola Valley, Cleveland came away with a 68-65 triumph for its sixth win in eight starts, while the Sundevils dropped to 10-2 after building a 36-26 advantage at the intermission, 53-43 in the fourth quarter, and then being forced into overtime by the rallying Storm.
Also in non-district boys play, West Las Vegas lost to visiting Escalante, 74-68.
