Not much in the line of scoring points

By Arnie Leshin
The visiting St. Michael’s girls basketball team continued its droughts and struggled to score, but its defense had enough to turn back West Las Vegas on the road, 28-23, Wednesday night in the District 2-3A quarterfinals.
It put the 4th-seeded Lady Horsemen at 10-17 overall and dropped the 3rd-seeded Dons to 9-14. But it also advanced St. Michael’s to the semifinals tonight at 2nd-seeded Santa Fe Indian School.
Junior point guard Lauryn Pecos tossed in eight points in the first quarter on the way to a team-high dozen points, and junior teammate Carmen Pacheco added eight.
The Lady Horsemen maintained their advantage from the start, although the Dons did close to within 25-23 with 90 seconds remaining, but St. Michael’s came up with 3-of-4 free throws to seal the win. The Indian School-Lady Horsemen winner will travel to Robertson for Friday’s final.
