SFNF Pecos/Las Vegas District is Hiring for Seasonal Positions

What better way to combine employment with the enjoyment of working outdoors than to apply for one of two full-time temporary positions on the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF).

This is an opportunity to work in the beautiful Sangre De Cristo Mountains surrounded by mountain views from the Pecos Ranger Station in Pecos, NM. Interested candidates can visit the SFNF website to learn more about the ranger station and the forest.

The Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District plans to fill two seasonal positions:

GS-04 Forestry Technician (Wilderness/Trails) – Key functions and responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring wilderness areas and trails are maintained to established trail standards and cleaning and organizing wilderness cabins when necessary.
  • Interacting with and educating a variety of backcountry user groups on established wilderness area rules and regulations.
  • Physical demands of the job require regular hiking and backpacking up to 10 miles per day, exposure to adverse weather conditions, and performing work on steep and rugged terrain. The successful candidate may be required to periodically camp in the backcountry at elevations between 9,000 to 12,000 feet.

GS-04/05 Forestry Technician (Recreation) – Key functions and responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with maintenance of district recreation facilities and overseeing district signage.
  • Providing information to forest visitors about resource management practices, recreation opportunities and current restrictions in the area as well as checking for compliance with recreation regulations.
  • Physical demands of the job require performing physical labor, carrying items up to 50 pounds or more and exposure to adverse weather conditions.
