SFNF Volunteer Campground Host Positions Open on Volunteer.gov

By SFNF

TheSanta Fe National Forest (SFNF) is looking for energetic, hardworking, fun-loving individuals and pairs of people to fill vacant volunteer campground host positions across the forest. We welcome all to apply before the 2022 seasons begins.

Volunteer campground host coverage will begin on May 2 through Oct. 31. Interested applicants can apply on volunteer.gov by entering Santa Fe National Forest into the search engine to view the list of campground locations before Friday, April 1.

These recreation sites are generally moderate- to high-use locations which draw a wide range of visitors with varied expectations for their outdoor recreation experiences. All volunteer campground host opportunities require:

  • Excellent customer service skills and a willingness and ability to perform daily cleaning and light maintenance around the campground.
  • Volunteer hosts should own their own accommodation to live on site (RV/motorhome/camper); tents are not permitted.
  • Campground hosts should be prepared to operate off-grid, if needed. Utilities will be provided at campground locations where it is available.
  • Safety training is provided to mitigate potential hazards and support hosts in creating the safest work environment possible.
  • A “Good Host” attitude of being respectful, courteous, helpful and friendly to all people is both a requirement of the position and a safety technique.
  • Position benefits include modest daily reimbursement and mileage if personal vehicle needs to be used for work-related tasks while on duty.

Volunteer campground hosts assist campers by providing information and answering questions about the campground and local area. They also monitor the campground as the “eyes and ears” of the forest when SFNF employees are unable to be present. Hosts may be asked to collect fees from campers and perform light maintenance duties on the campground. Most importantly, it’s a great opportunity to spend some quality time in the beautiful mountains, valleys and mesas of the Santa Fe National Forest.
