Visiting Capital’s girls basketball had an easy time romping past Albuquerque Rio Grande

The Capital girls hit the road Friday nightand handily wrapped up their District 5-5A games against winless Albuquerque Rio Grande by bringing back a resounding 47-17 win.
It put the Jaguars at 6-15 overall and 3-2 in district. The Ravens, beaten in the previous road game at Capital, 70-9, lost for the 19th straight time overall and are 0-6 in district.
The Jags were up 9-5 after one quarter and 28-11 at halftime. They held Rio Grande scoreless in the third quarter and outscored it 19-6 over the last two quarters.
Pecos was home to District 7-2A rival Texico Friday night and had no problem gaining a 52-40 triumph to advance to 7-11 overall and 1-2 in district. Texico dropped to 6-13 overall and is winless in three district tests.
The Panthers quickly went in front 14-2 after one quarter and upped it to 28-6 at intermission. They scored 14 points for the third straight quarter, outscored Texico 42-14 heading into the final quarter, but when the benches emptied, Texico went on a 26-10 roll.
Up at Raton in District 2-3A play, St. Michael’s carried off an impressive 48-30 victory to raise its overall mark to 8-14 and 2-3 in district. It was the second time the Lady Horsemen turned back the Tigers, winning 57-16 in the previous match-up, as Raton dropped to 9-13 overall and 0-5 in district.
At Santa Fe High, the Demonettes dropped a 44-42 tough one to District 5-5A rival Albuquerque High after also losing to the Bulldogs, 63-38, in the earlier meeting in Albuquerque. This dropped Santa Fe to 12-8 overall and 3-2 in district, with the Bulldogs now 14-6 overall and unbeaten in six district starts.
