SFNF and Partners Sponsor Trail Work Basic Training

By SFNF

Ever wonder what it takes to maintain the trails you enjoy on public lands? Join the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) and our partners from Hyde Memorial State Park, New Mexico Volunteers for the Outdoors, Santa Fe Fat Tire Society, and SFNF Termites for trail work basic training on Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.at Hyde Memorial State Park Visitor Center.

Enjoying your public lands, preserving the places you love and working alongside people who share an appreciation for the outdoors are a few of the benefits of being a volunteer. If you aren’t sure how to get started, this is a great opportunity to find out and get to know members of local organizations making an impact on local trails and projects.

Training will consist of a classroom session followed by on-the-ground physical work where volunteers will apply their knowledge of sustainable trail design and learn how to safely use common trail tools. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, eye protection, and gloves will be available, or participants may also bring their own PPE. Lunch will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring snacks and water.

This training is open to anyone interested in volunteering to improve local trails, but capacity is limited. You can reserve a seat by signing up online at Trail Works Basic Training Google form, call 505-469-8681 or emailsarah.smith3@usda.gov.

In the interest of public health and safety, please follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidanceand comply with state public health orders to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.
