St. Michael’s drops close 4-3 contest to Albuquerque

After an impressive run through the Moriarty Softball Invitational, St. Michael’s dropped the 4-3 championship game to 4A Albuquerque St. Pius X Saturday to drop the Lady Horsemen to 7-2 overall at they open District 2-3A play Tuesday against West Las Vegas at the Christian Brothers Athletic Complex.
St. Michael’s was up 3-0 after a 3-run third, but the Spartans took the lead with a 3-run burst in the fifth inning on a mixture of a walk, an error, and a hit batsman. Both teams are frontrunners in their respective classes, St. Pius (10-4) in 4A and St. Michael’s in 3A.
The Lady Horsemen picked up a hit apiece from junior Carmen Pacheco, freshman Emily Montoya and 8th-grader Mariella Ruiz, with young Ruiz scoring a run.
