Alvarez said she went on to hurl two more innings before being relieved by freshman Emily Montoya as the Lady Horsemen lost for the first time in five starts. Valdez did come away with two hits and the same number of RBI.
Bernalillo (6-1) was down 1-0 when it came up with a 12-2 run in the middle innings. St. Michael’s did respond with five unanswered runs after the Spartans did the same to increase their lead.
Montoya had a pair of hits and two RBI, freshman Ariana Rivera had a 3-for-3 game and scored once, sophomore Mia Duran added two safeties and batted in two runs, while 8th-grader Marcella Ruiz contributed two hits.
