DVS Cabinet Secretary Smith and Other DVS Staff to Help Welcome Back Northern NM “Honor Flight”

By Arnie Leshin

DVS Cabinet Secretary Sonya Smith and other DVS staff will be among the crowd welcoming the 2022 Northern New Mexico Honor Flight back to the Albuquerque Sunport tomorrow at 2:10 p.m.

Twenty-five veterans from northern New Mexico made the flight this year: Two from WWII, 11 from the Korean War, and 12 from the Vietnam War.

Honor Flights provide free all-expenses-paid trips for veterans to visit the national war monuments in Washington, D.C. and the nearby Arlington National Cemetery—-trips which many veterans would not otherwise be able to take.

This trip was made possible by Honor Flight of Northern New Mexico, a non-profit group part of the national Honor Flight Network. Priority is given to veterans of World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and catastrophically ill or injured veterans from any service era.

Southwest flight #615 is scheduled to land at 2:10 p.m. The public is invited to welcome back and cheer the veterans as they arrive from their emotional two-day visit to see the monuments dedicated to their war era.
