SFNF Offices Closed Monday in Observance of Juneteenth

By SFNF

All Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) offices will be closed on Monday, June 20, 2022, in observance of the Juneteenth federal holiday. Last year, legislation passed by Congress and signed by President Biden established Juneteenth as a federal holiday to commemorate the day in 1865 when Union soldiers brought news of the 1863 Emancipation Proclamation to the approximately 250,000 enslaved people in Texas. Since June 19 is on a Sunday this year, the holiday will be observed on Monday.

Although our offices will be closed, many of us will be working to support fire response and public safety. Offices will resume regular business hours Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

As a reminder, the Stage 3 closure orderremains in effect, prohibiting public access to the entire 1.6 million acres of the SFNF due to active wildfires and extreme fire danger. Please seek alternate plans for recreation and forego visiting the national forest.

Fire updates can be found on the New Mexico Fire Information website and Inciweb. Stay up to date on SFNF news by checking the SFNFwebsite and following us on Facebook andTwitter.
