The Thursday Little Leage World Series game of the day, no doubt, had to be the United States one matching Hagerstown, Indiana with Davenport, Iowa at South Williamsport, Pa.
Iowa, which made it the WS for the first time since 1975, scored once in the top of the first, but Indiana responded with a four-run third and a 3-run fourth to grab a 7-1 advantage. But when it appeared Iowa was about to lose its first rounder, it answered back with three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to knot the score at 7-all.
But when the Davenport youngsters came up empty in the sixth, Hagerstown put two on with two out and a base hit up the middle scored the winning run to a wild celebration.
In the other results, Curaco from Willemstead, blanked Puerto Rico, 2-0, in the International field, and the other game between foreign entries had Canada shut down Australia, 7-0. The other U.S. contest brought Southeast’s Parkland, Texas an 8-3 triumph over Hollisdayburg, Pennsylvania.
The four games today have Curaco versus Panama’s Aguadulce, and Takarkazuka, Japan taking on Canada’s Vancouver British Columbia, and in the United States contests it’s Nolensville, Tennessee playing Santa Clara, Utah, and Massapequa, New York, meeting up with Honolulu, Hawaii.
