It’s Honolulu, Hawaii to face Williamstad, Curacao Sunday in the Baseball Little League World Series championship

By Arnie Leshin
Well, it wasn’t anything like the resounding 13-0 four-inning Honolulu, Hawaii pined on Southeast Nolensville, Tennessee, but the 5-1 win Saturday over once-beaten Tennessee still got unbeaten Hawaii into the Sunday Baseball Little League World Series championship game played for all of its 75 annual games at South Williamsport, Pa.
Hawaii, which rolled it up in winning four in a row, scored once in the last of the first inning, three more times in the second and one each in the fifth and sixth frames, and yes this time the two played the six-game limit. Tennessee even reached the scoring column with a run in the top of the fourth.
While Tennessee came up with three hits this time, Hawaii had seven, but Southeast righthander Trent O’Neil did pitch a route-going contest. He struck out three and walked two and his defense made only one error this time while Honolulu made two.
For Hawaii, which now faces International champion Williemstad, Curacao, a 1-0 winner over Chinese Taipei (Tawain) City, the capital of Tawain, it’s a chance for a third World Series title to tie Mexico. Curacao has also won twice, the last in 2009. Tawain holds the record 17 WS championships and Japan has 11.
For Hawaii, righthander Cohen Santiago also pitched the distance, striking out eight and  walking two. Curacao has one loss at 5-2 against Panama. Does it have a chance to cool off Hawaii, could be, it sure looks good now. It has good pitching, is well-coached, and has excellent defense. But so does the youngsters from Honolulu.
