In the first round of the 75th annual Little League World Series, Hawaii was as good as advertised, Tennessee and Massachusetts figured to have a close clash and did, in the United States field, while in the International field, Curacao got by Nicaragua and Canada was impressive in shutting down Australia.
Four more games will be played today in South Williamsport, Pa., with Taipei City China facing Bologna, Italy, in the International opener, Davenport, Iowa against Hagerstown, Indiana in the U.S. contest, In the Interenational, Guaynabo, Puerto Rico versus Matamoro, Mexico. and the final United States contest of the day sending Pearland, Texas against Holisdayburg, Pennsylvania.
Hawaii, from the West, dominated its region by routing Northern California, Southern California and Phoenix, Arizona., and did the same against Washington state Wednesday,13-1. and Southeast Tennessee broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the fourth inning to get past New England Massachusetts, 5-3,
Meanwhile, Curacao of the Caribbean blanked Latin America’s Nicaragua, 2-0, and Canada blanked Australia, 7-0.
