NM HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS RESULTS

St. Michael’s and Santa Fe Prep won their fourth straight girls soccer matches Tuesday as the Lady Horsemen picked up an initial hat trick from freshman scoring leader Sophia Miera in the 10-0 non-district win at Capital and the Griffins blanked visiting East Mountain, 4-0, as Olivia Clay turned in a goal and assist.
It was St. Michael’s fourth shutout and its fifth win in seven starts. Miera now eight goals while junior Jade Lujan, sophomore Elena Lovato, and freshman Marisa Dominguez added two goals each and one was scored by senior Grace Sandoval, her fifth. The Lady Horsemen have 10 days off before a non-district match against Socorro in the first round of the Albuquerque Sandia Prep Invitational on Sept. 2
For the Griffins it was a scoreless first half at Sun Mountain Field, but in the final two quarters Prep goals came from Olivia Clay, Marlehy Belyeu and Lisa Hirsch-Arnett, with Tessa Teigler and Abby Furlanette leading the defense as Prep advanced to a 6-2 overall record. It takes on visiting Monte del Sol Thursday.
But the Santa Fe High girls dropped a 2-1 match versus Albuquerque Bosque School to fall to 5-2-1, with its next match at reigning 5A state champion Albuquerque Cibola on Friday. Asha Smelser tallied the Demonettes goal.
In boys soccer, Santa Fe High’s defending boys 6A champion hung on by taking to the road and nipping Albuquerque Cibola, 2-1. Now 6-2, the Demons will be home to Rio Rancho Cleveland Saturday. Cy Anderson accounted for a pair of Santa Fe High goals and Evan Eadie contributed two assists.
Then there was the St. Michael’s boys turning in a 4-0 non-district victory at Capital, with the Horsemen (6-2) heading up to Taos on Thursday while the Jaguars (0-4) go to Albuquerque Thursday to play Del Norte.
Trevor Erickson scored twice to go with the same number of assists, and Elijah Florez-Mansi added an assist.
In volleyball, Santa Fe High took to the road and swept Albuquerque Sandia, 25-21, 25-19, 27-25, for the first time since Oct. 19, 2005, as sophomore libero Izzy Lovato turned in 21 digs and senior middle hitter Eliza Fowler had a dozen blocks as the Demonettes won for the second time against four defeats, and hits the road to Rio Rancho Cleveland Thursday.
Santa Fe Prep though lost 3-0 to visiting Los Alamos, 25-11, 25-17, 25-10, and dropped to 1-5 as it now plays Friday at Santa Fe Indian School’s annual Pink Classic. The Griffins did receive nine kills from Nicole Gonzales as well as a stellar defensive effort, and Lauren McHorse came up with five kills and one block.
