St. Michael’s girls soccer team scored a 10-0

St. Michael’s girls soccer team improved to 7-3 overall by shutting down visiting District 2-3A rival West Las Vegas, 10-0, Tuesday afternoon at the Christian Brothers Athletic Complex.
The next test for the Lady Horsemen is at district foe Santa Fe Indian School Thursday, while the 5-4 Dons play at Samta Fe Prep in district play Saturday.
The Griffins had a tougher go in handing undefeated visiting Robertson its initial defeat, 3-2, at Sun Mountain Field. Prep upped its overall mark to 11-2 and the Cardinals dropped to 9-1. The Griffins next play host to district opponent West Las Vegas Saturday, with Roberson playing a non-district match Thursday at Pojoaque Valley.
In volleyball, unbeaten St. Michael’s had head coach Valerie Sandoval win her 100th match with a 3-0 blank in district play at Santa Fe Prep via a sweep of 25-19. 25-16, 25-10 to advance to its 15th straight victory and drop the Griffins to 3-9.
The Lady Horsemen now has their District 2-3A opener versus visiting Raton Thursday, and on Oct. 6, Prep plays at St. Michael’s.
Under first-year head coach Jessica Butler, Monte del Sol won for the first time against visiting Espanola McCurdy via scores of 22-25, 25-27, 25-22, 25-21, 15-11 in a huge comeback that put the Dragons at 1-9. They play next at Questa Friday.
Starring with back-to-back losses, Monte del Sol had Krista Tarrnd razas paved the rally with 17 kills, June Martinez added 10 kills, two blocks and three aces, Xandra Zubia turned in 15 digs and a pair of kills, and setter Stefnee Bicanno-Roybal dished out 25 assists and one ace.
