Same site, same distance, same result for St. Michael’s sophomore Raylee Hunt at Saturday’s second annual Academy Extravaganza cross country raced at Albuquerque Academy.
The Chargers will again host the upcoming state championships and it has become a familiar course for Hunt, the 3A state champion last year. As she did in leading from start to finish at state in 19:12.14, this time
she clocked 19:06.90 and leaving second place to related Santa Fe Prep freshman Sophie Bair, who clocked 20:37.14.
Third was Santa Fe Indian School sophomore Destiny Chino in 20:46,56, and the team title handily went to the Braves with 84 points.
Hunt had the second fastest winning time over the 5,000-meter course behind the 18:01.68 turned in by Rio Rancho Cleveland senior Leah Futey in 5A. In 4A, the top spot went to host Albuquerque Academy senior Katie Patton in 19:11.32, and in 1-2A, topping the field in 20:12.87 was Rehoboth Christian junior Emily Garcia.
Indian School senior Destiny Marquez placed seventh in 21:26.92, senior teammate Alexis Aquino ran 10th in 21:53.83, Braves freshman Kaydence Riley was 16ih in 22:24.87, sophomore Rayann Concho took 22:39.18, and then came senior Arianna Montoya in 22:53.66, followed by 24th place Kendra Emery in the time of 23:89.65.
The young Santa Fe Prep girls picked up a 6th place from freshman Pippa Barrett, who ran 21:22.68, just a few steps ahead of Marquez, and Griffins sophomore Helen Desmond, daughter of co-head coaches
Liz and Matt, placed 11th and clocked 21:57.46.
In 4A was where Pojoaque Valley and Espanola Valley raced, with the top Sundevil being 7th place freshman Neveah Carhora in 20:52.76, and for the Elkettes it was junior Eliziabeth Towles taking 12th in 21:29.27 just ahead of sophomore teammate Hailey RIentera.
In 5A, the best that Santa Fe High could do was the 88th place by junior Analee Aure in 23:45.56, and for Capital underclassman Litania Accosta-Olivera was way down the line in 29:31.91.
