An update on the high school area schools football this weekend.
On Thursday night, Santa Fe Indian School (1-5) is at Robertson (5-2) in District 2-3A, and it could bring the shortened mercy rule. The Cardinals have just too much of everything against the Braves.
On Friday night, Los Alamos (3-4) heads for Albuquerque Manzano (0-7) and will no doubt hand the Monarchs just another loss in what is District 2/6-5A.
The same night has Taos (6-1) playing at Espanola Valley (5-2) in 2-4A, with the Sundevils an improved program, but the red-hot Tigers have won six in a row and have allowed only four touchdowns in the last five starts.
Also on Friday the 2-4A matchup has Moriarty (5-2) heading to winless Pojoaque Valley (0-6), and the Pintos should score a lot and handily win this one.
And then there’s Espanola McCurdy (3-5) traveling to Escalante (4-4) in 1/2/5-2A and the Lobos should have no problem winning big on their home field.
Can’t forget Saturday night when St. Michael’s (6-1) takes a ride to Raton (7-1) in 2-3A play and the featured star is the Tigers’ senior two-way starter Clayton Walton, who has tallied 32 touchdowns and averring 276.8 yards per carry. The Horsemen will have to exert themselves to win this one up there in the jungle.
Also on Saturday afternoon for a 1:30kickoff in this 5-5A contest, Capital (3-5) gets a visit from Albuquerque High (2-7) and it could either be a close one or the Jaguars prevailing at home and enjoying being off that night.
