Well, check out this stunning Saturday college football special

By Arnie Leshin
It sometimes takes a while before picking out the Saturday college football game to lead off with. But this one didn’t take long. It might be some time before this final score is tough to believe, but heck, just figure out cowboys with footballs getting attacked by wildcats in what would be an early ending, a mercy-rule in some other sports, but lo and behold this one just played until the final whistle.
So how’s about how I first found out what was cooking in Manhattan, the one where Kansas State is. I go through the scores and there it is — Kansas City quickly 7-0, then a swift 14-0, then a short break before the Wildcats turned it up to 21 and 28-0 as halftime brought a break from this unprecedented assault.
Now right to the chase and when it came down to the end from 35-0 and 42-0, the drum roll was 22nd-ranked KANSAS CITY 48, OKALHOMA STATE’s Cowboys 0, Yes 0, naught, nada by the same Stillwater gang that rallied from a 13-point deficit against visiting Texas to win last week and claim No. 8, but it sure didn’t last long.
By all rights, the Wildcats, the same one that has defeated Big 12 rival Oklahoma home-and-away twice in the last four years, should exchange places with KC, so let’s see when the new rankings come out with Monday.
As for the Sooners, with a new head coach they won their first three, then lost their next three, and now have won two-straight to become 5-3 overall and needs one more win to qualify for their usual bowl berth.
They already played Kansas City, at home nonetheless, and lost. Now the fans who support this lower-key  Manhattan are asking for more respect. It’s not easy to knock off the two Oklahoma gridiron powerhouses, but their team just does it or did it whatever comes first.
Syracuse should fall from the top 25. Now No. 16 after attracting 19 yellow penalty flags of 182 yards in a nasty setback at No. 6 Clemson, went down in a full house surprising Carrier Dome loss to visiting Notre Dame, 42-29. The Tigers come off a bye weekend to tackle the unranked Fighting Irish next.
No. 1 Georgia came through as expected and sank the rival Florida Gators, 40-28, No. 3 went against No. 17 visiting Kentucky Saturday night, No. 2 Ohio State had a tough time at No. 13 Penn State before having
a better exit to prevail 44-30.
No. 7 TCU didn’t have it easy at unranked West Virginia but left with a 32-24 win, No. 8 Oregon trailed early at unranked California, but had a big second half and triumphed 38-16. but for No. 10 Wake Forest it was bad news, for after it was close for two quarters at Louisville, the Cardinals left the Demon Deacons way behind to cruise home 27-13.
In the clash of unranked teams in Virginia, Miami came up from South Florida and left with a wild four-0vertime 14-12 success over the Cavaliers. No. 17 Illionois with one of its better teams, had no problem before the usual full house at Nebraska, and after being behind 11-7, just coasted along 28-10.
No. 22 Cincinnati was a slight favorite over unranked Central Florida, but UCF took advantage of its home field to gain a tight 34-31 win. And down when streaking 25th-ranked South Carolina at home to unranked Missouri, 27-20.
Other late games had No. 12 UCLA hosting unranked Stanford, No. 11 Southern California playing at unranked Arizona, No. 21 North Carolina getting a visit from unranked Pittsburgh, and can’t forget Kentucky taking the field at Tennessee.
