Rio Rancho Hondo Wrestling Scuffle competed at Roswell

It was ascloseasthis in the boys varsity final of the annual Rio Rancho Hondo Wrestling Scuffle held at Roswell Saturday. 
 
That’s the way it went among the boys, with first place Belen compiling 143 points, one more than Hobbs. Third place went to Rio Rancho Cleveland with 140, Espanola was next with 110, Socorro scoring 104 for fifth, and Santa Fe High tallied 101 for sixth.
 
The Demons came away with a pair of victories as Elias Mendolia did so in the 121-point weight, and Tomas Martinez in the 152. There was also a runner-up finish going to Santa Fe High’s Jeremiah Padilla at 145 pounds.
 
Capital, which scored 35 points for seventh place, picked up a win from Sevastian Madrid in the 127 weight. 
 
In the girls field, Dumas, Tx., took the top spot with 197 points, leaving second place Goddard way behind with 73. The Jaguars rang up 35 points for seven place, and the Demonettes scored 10 to place 16th. Capital’s Anika Rodriguez took first in the 156 weight and teammate Nisa Gallegos at 185 came in fourth. For Santa Fe High, second place went to Alana Alvarez at 138.
 
In the boys junior varsity, it was the Jags piecing together 62 points for 11th place and the Demons 13th with 35. Second place went to Mateo Tapia of Santa Fe High at the combined 114/121. For Capital, teammates Matt Truillo and Dante Rodriguez tied for third in the 107.
