St. Michael’s boys and girls triumph

In boys play, St. Michael’s had a non-district 61-56 win at Belen Thursday to up its overall record 7-4 and winning its second in a row. Just no box score found here.

 

Santa Fe High’s boys also came away with their 79-59 non-district Thursday triumph at Albuquerque Hope Christian to get past .500 overall at 5-4. However, no box score here either. 

 

Then there was Monte del Sol coming off a loss to Mora Wednesday by romping over Questa, 65-36, Thursday to advance to 5-6 overall and with a lengthy break before playing Academy for Technology and The Classics on Jan. 10. 

 

The Dragons led 18-9 after a quarter, 36-16, at the break, 62-27 after three, and cruised to the final buzzer. Opps, the daily also had Monte del Sol defeating Santa Fe Prep by the same score on Thursday, but it was never played. 

 

ATATC’s boys got by Santa Rosa, 50-46, but they never call their results in, so no box score included here. 

 

Also, Cleveland downed Farmington, 79-49, Clovis turned back Lovington, 55-54, Goddard topped Kirtland Central, 55-42, Albuquerque St. Pius X edged Albuquerque Rio Grande, 45-41, Rio Rancho rolled past Espanola Valley, 63-28, and Los Alamos routed Piedra Vista, 56-35.  

In girls play, St. Michael’s came away with a 39-33 victory over visiting Pecos, up its overall mark to 8-4 after losing its last two in a row, and with the Panthers falling to 5-5 and their second straight loss.

 

The Lady Horsemen, who play next on Jan. 3 with a visit from Pojoaque Valley, and again on Jan. 9 at crosstown rival Capital, trailed here 12-9 after one quarter, 20-19 at the intermission, led 28-24 heading into the fourth quarter, and with an 11-9 advantage in the last quarter.  

 

Also in girls play on Thursday, Espanola Valley became 5-9 overall by besting Taos, 43-31, on the road for its third win in a row and to drop the Tigers to 2-8 with their third straight setback. 

 

Visiting Albuquerque Hope Christian romped past Penasco, 61-29, Kirtland Central did the same in walloping Goddard, 59-26, Artesia bested Deming, 57-39, on the road, and visiting Thoreau handed Santa Rosa a 55-44 defeat.

 

Then there was Carlsbad triumphing at Mayfield, 42-32, and visiting Santa Fe Indian School became 12-2 overall by handing To’hajillee a 54-36 setback, its first in 11 starts.
