NM HIGH SCHOOL BOYS GIRLS BASKETBALL

The St. Michael’s girls basketball team picked up their low scoring draught of late by handing visiting West Las Vegas a 40-27 Tuesday night setback in the District 2-3A tournament quarterfinals. 
 
With their highest score over the last few starts, it advanced the Lady Horsemen to Wednesday’s opener of the doubleheader at Santa Fe Indian School that is scheduled for a 5:30 start.
 
Now 17-10 overall, St. Michael’s senior Madison Mossman just came up short of a double-double by scoring a dozen points and bringing down nine rebounds. 
 
The Dons finished their record season at 13-14 but could land in the state tournament. They were held to just three points in the second quarter, but the Lady Horsemen turned an 8-6 deficit into a 19-11 halftime lead. When WLV trimmed the margin to 26-21 late in the third quarter, St. Michael’s answered with a 9-1 run.
 
In a 5-5A quarters at Capital, Los Lunas ended the Jaguars’ season at 6-21 via a 44-35 triumph to advance the tournament semifinals at Albuquerque High.
 
Senior Amarie Romero had the team-high 10 points for Capital and sophomore Annica Montoya added nine. The Tigers now move on with a 6-21 overall mark. 
 
In boys tournament quarterfinals play of District 2-3A, Monte del Sol Charter inched closer to a state tournament berth by rolling past Tierra Encantada, 82-47, at the Christian Life court and concluded the Alacranes’ season at 8-15 and with five straight losses.
 
It was the second straight Dragons’ win over Tierra Encantada and improved their overall record to 14-13. Senior 6-foot-4 forward Kevin Enriquez had the game-high 33 points and now has 1,599 for his prep career. 
 
Senior Xandra Zubia added 25, and freshman Bryan Enriquez scored 10. The Alacranes’ six-player roster of three seniors and three sophomores, received their team-high of 13 points from senior Raymond Roybal and senior Xavier Serna tallied 11.
 
Monte del Sol advanced to Thursday’s semifinals at Academy of Technology and The Classics.
 
At Santa Fe Prep in 2-3A, West Las Vegas dominated the Griffins, 83-58, to gain the Wednesday semis at Santa Fe Indian School in the closer of the doubleheader. The Dons are now 13-13 overall, Prep finished its regular season at 11-14 and still has hopes of gaining the state tournament.
 
Senior Mitch Grover of the Griffins had the game-high 29 points.
