With the heavy snow falling, the St. Michael’s boys basketball team made the short trip over to Santa Fe Prep Monday and clinched no worse than a tie for the top spot in District 2-3A via 71-50 win.
Now a game up on defending champion Robertson at 8-0, the Horsemen are 20-4 overall, it was a huge 47-30 run in the second half that carried the visitors past the Griffins, which dropped to 10-12 overall and 2-6 in district.
Seniors Sabiana Rios and Adam Montoya paved the way for St. Michael’s with 18 and 13 points, respectively. Van Anderson tallied the game-high 19 for Prep and Mitch Grover added 11.
With more chance of snow falling Tuesday and Wednesday, the Horsemen are scheduled for a visit from West Las Vegas Tuesday, while the Griffins have a Wednesday date with Santa Fe Indian School, with both district games.
