St. Michael’s softball team errored away a lead in one game and bases on balls did so in the other game of Monday afternoon‘s doubleheader at Pojoaque Valley in non-district play.
Now 6-15 overall, in the opener it was 2-0 Elkettes after four innings, the Lady Horsemen tied it in the top of the fifth, but the home team then had four back-to-back runs in the fifth and sixth to offset the St. Michael’s four seventh inning tallies.
St. Michael’s outhit Pojoaque with 14 hits in each game, but five miscues in the opener spoiled things, as did three in game two.
The second game had the Lady Horsemen score four times in the top of the first, and then added one each in the second, fourth and six frames only to have the Elkettes come up with a 5-run fifth and 3-run seventh to seal the win.
Pojoaque had 10 hits in the opener and played errorless ball, and came up with six hits in the closer and errored twice.
St. Michael’s sent freshman Erianna Sisneros to the circle in game one and she issued five walks and had no strikeouts.
Junior Mariella Ruiz had a good day at bat with a solo home run and a run scored in the opener, and 3-for-3 in the closer and scored twice. Senior Lauren Pecos had three hits in the doubleheader, and red-hot junior Mia Duran contributed five hits to go with two RBI.
Ninth-grader Kianna Trujillo had a 3-for-4 day in the second game, scored once and added an RBI, and hurled the first five innings with a dozen walks, one strikeout, and allowed the first seven runs.
Then there was senior Carmen Pacheco with a pair of hits and the same number of runs and RBI, and 8th-grader Gianna Schultz came up with three second-game hits and scored once.
The next stop for the Lady Horsemen is Friday in a 2-3A doubleheader at Raton. The Tigers are 2-14 overall and 0-7 in district.
