Santa Fe Prep turned in a 3-1 victory in non-district boys soccer play at Hatch Valley.

It was the fifth win in a dozen starts for the Griffins who were led by a pair of goals from junior Weston Stump, the other from Gordan Zang, and all saves went to goalkeeper Van Anderson. Stump broke the 1-1 tie and had six shots in all, as well as an assist.

The result left third place to the Prep in the Kivitz Memorial Invitational played at host Albuquerque Sandia Prep. On Thursday, the Griffins get a visit from Pojoaque Valley.

It wasn’t a good day on the pitch for Santa Fe High as it dropped a 5-1 match against visiting Cleveland. Cy Anderson tallied the lone Demons’ goal off an assist from Beckham Sayer and keeper Pasha Burnett came up with 10 saves.

It was 1-1 at halftime, but the Storm came away with the remaining goals on 11 shots after the intermission. Cleveland scored in the 49th minute to break the tie, and then piled on the rest of the goals to pull away.

On Tuesday, Santa Fe High begins District 5-5A play at Albuquerque High.

In girls soccer, St. Michael’s fell to visiting Albuquerque Sandia Prep, 5-1, as the Lady Horsemen dropped to 3-5-1 and plays next on Tuesday versus the Academy for Technology and The Classics at El Camino Real Academy.

Senior Jada Lujan tallied the lone Lady Horsemen goal on a direct kick just outside the penalty box, and sophomore Sophia Miera played another stellar game against the reigning District 1A/3A champions.
