Santa Fe National Forest to host community meeting Golondrino Prescribed fire

Santa Fe National Forest officials will hold a community meeting to discuss the upcoming Golondrino Prescribed Fire on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Regina Fire Department located at 923 HWY 96 in Regina.

Fire managers will be present to discuss the prescribed fire which is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of September 25. A final decision on whether to proceed with the project will depend on agency administrator approval, resource availability, fuel moisture levels, air quality and forecast weather. Prescribed fires are designed to meet specific objectives and are always managed with firefighter and public safety as the priority.

The Golondrino Prescribed Fire is part of the Rio Chama Collaborative Landscape Restoration Project that encompasses 3.8 million acres, spanning federal, state tribal and private lands in New Mexico and Colorado with the aim of restoring the forested headwaters of the Rio Chama and Rio Grande rivers.
