TOP COLLEGE FOOTBALL 20 AND TOP WEEKEND POLL GAMES

By Arnie leshin
A grand total of 42 college division 1 football teams are currently undefeated, all with 3-0 overall records, but this Saturday has a dozen of these teams meeting up in the middle of the pack.

The weekend does have two unbeaten teams that open the schedule on Thursday night, and that is Georgia State, 3-0 but not ranked among the listed 20 as it plays at 2-1Coastal Carolina in a 5:30kickoff, and also on Thursday, unbeaten, unranked 3-0 Air Force is at San Jose State.

No-1-ranked Georgia heads the pack and is a two-touchdown favorite at  University of Alabama Birmingham. But No. 2 Michigan is at unbeaten, but unranked Rutgers in a 10 a.m.scheduled start.

Then comes No. 3 Texas at Baylor, No. 4 Florida State at Clemson, and No. 5 Southern California at Arizona State. All three opponents are not ranked, but good quality teams.

But then it’s on to the undefeated No. 6 Ohio State at No. 9 Notre Dame, No. 7 Penn State at No. 14 Iowa, No. 10 Oregon at No. 19 Colorado, No. 11 Utah at No. 22 UCLA, and shaky No. 13 Alabama at No. 15 Mississippi.

So that brings 10 versus 10 from the sixth spot to the 15th position. Kind of crowded, but should be interesting. The others with unblemished records will be trying to remain that way, but don’t count on it.

Who knows, can the Scarlet Knights give Michigan a game in the Garden State?

No. 14 is Oregon State, No. 16 is Oklahoma, No. 17 is North Carolina, No. 18 is Duke, No. 20 is Miami, No. 23 is Tennessee, and No. 25 is Florida. Of their opponents, Cincinnati has had a good program in recent years and could maybe give Oklahoma a tough test.

On Friday there are five tilts on tap, one having undefeated 3-0 Air Force at San Jose State (1-3).

There’s Brown at Harvard, both 1-0, North Carolina State (2-1) at disappointing Virginia, 0-3, Wisconsin (2-1) at Purdue (1-2), and Boise State (1-2) at San Diego State (2-2).
