END OF BIG 12 RED RIVER TEXAS-OKLAHOMA FOOTBALL RIVARY

By Arnie Leshin

It will be played under the league’s umbrella for the final time when the annual Red River Rivalry football game is contested for the final time Saturday

The kickoff is scheduled for noon. From there, it will lead the two Big 12 teams to the Southeastern Conference in 2024, the same year that the Big 12 expands for a whooping 16 teams.

While the Big 12 hopes will be an exciting launch of a new era, gone will be its most hyped regular-season tilt along with the annual Bedlam meeting with Oklahoma State versus Oklahoma.

It’s a league with no other rivalries on par with these two.

Said Longhorns’ head coach Steve Sarkisian: “The spotlight of college football is on this game, it’s the best setting, there’s not an empty seat, and it’s two rip-roaring loud throngs representing fierce rivals.

That’s howling fans split between orange and red

It dates back way back to 1900, and it will soon belong to the grid powerhouse SEC. The schools are located about three hours from the site of this gala event.

Except for last year’s 49-0 romp for Texas, the series was decided by eight points or less in the eight Red Rivers prior to that.

the rivalry, the intensity, does figure to continue though when the teams go at in the SEC.

Presently both teams are at 5-0, with both having standout starting quarterbacks to go with balanced offenses and aggressive, experienced defenses

Passing over last year’s rout, It should and usually is a dandy match-up.
