Interested in becoming a volunteer or a hunter education instructor?

These are the steps that it takes to become a volunteer for the Department.

Start by emailing the Volunteer Coordinator, Chris Jarvis, and letting him know that you are interested in volunteering. Chris will send you the volunteer application forms.

Fill out the forms and return them to Chris Jarvis. When your application forms are returned, the Department will conduct a background check for any felony convictions or flagrant violations of Game and Fish laws.

Upon passing the background check, you will be asked to complete a free online ChildSafe course that generally takes about an hour.

Once we have received your ChildSafe certificate, you will be cleared to volunteer and we will add you to our volunteer system.

If you are interested in becoming a hunter education instructor, we will connect you with that department so you can register for an upcoming workshop.

Upcoming new Hunter Education Instructor workshops:

Jan. 6, 2024 in Hobbs

Jan. 27, 2024 in Albuquerque

OHV

Want to get away? Learn how to do so safely on your ATV.

Did you know?

New Mexico law requires anyone younger than 18 operating an OHV on public lands or any ATV or ROV on authorized paved roads to possess an OHV safety permit during use. OHV safety permits are not machine-specific (for instance, a safety permit from an ATV class is acceptable for dirt bike operation).

The Department is scheduling classes all over the state, find a list of statewide classes here.

All riders completing the course will earn their OHV safety permit and riders under 18 will receive a helmet and goggles.

Learn more about OHV safety here.
