Santa Fe National Forest actively suppresses new fire start

Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) fire managers were notified of a new wildfire start, located about 1 mile north of Paliza Family Campground in the Jemez Ranger District, on Tuesday February 27, 2024,

A fire investigator was ordered to confirm the wildfire cause as a tree falling on a powerline. The

2-3-acre wildfire is exhibiting low spread potential, burning in grass, sage, and pinyon-juniper woodland in the 2014 Pino Wildfire burned area. There are 3 engines on scene and no additional personnel are currently needed.

Smoke may be visible from Jemez Pueblo, and the communities of Ponderosa and San Ysidro.

Currently, there are no closures or threats to people or property.
