ARTISTS SPEAK ON THE IMPACT OF THE SCAS COLLECTIONS
The Spanish Colonial Arts Society collection is extremely important to me as an artist. It gives me a glimpse into the past and helps to preserve my cultural heritage. This collection allows me to explore the materials and techniques used in the creation of these works, revealing how our artistic practices have evolved over generations.

It has sparked my curiosity and inspired me in my own artistic journey and evolution, deepening my appreciation for my ancestors and the challenges they endured in creating art that brought them closer to their Catholic religion. I often wonder how many art forms might have become extinct if not for the remarkable collection of the Spanish Colonial Arts Society.

The Nuevo Mexicano Heritage Art Museum and its connection to the Spanish Colonial Arts Society are vital to preserving the historical culture of New Mexico and Southern Colorado.  As a research center, the museum has the ability to further increase its mission to engage in the rich history of the region. Within its walls is a comprehensive collection of the cultural arts, both historic and contemporary.  The collection is important to me because it is the only museum with extensive examples by contemporary cultural artists that are working today.
