Santa Fe National Forest Offices Closed on January 9

On behalf of President Biden, all Federal Departments and Agencies will be closed on Thursday January 9, 2025, for a Day of Remembrance to honor former President Jimmy Carter. As a result of the Executive Order, all Santa Fe National Forest District Offices and the Supervisor’s Office in Santa Fe, N.M. will be closed on Thursday January 9, 2025, and will resume regular business hours Friday January 10, 2025.

Former President Jimmy Carter made significant contributions to the Santa Fe National Forest. During his presidency, he signed the bill that established the 3,100-mile Continental Divide Trail, which runs through the Rocky Mountains from the Mexican to the Canadian border, passing through approximately 25 miles of the Santa Fe National Forest in the Cuba and Coyote Ranger Districts. In 1978, he also signed into law the Endangered American Wilderness Act, which includes the Chama River Canyon Wilderness located within the Santa Fe and Carson National Forests.
