Laguna Wildfire Daily Update

Acres: 17,275 Start                             Date: 06/25/2025
Location: Gallina, NM                       Cause: Lightning
Personnel: 202                                     Fuels: Oak brush, Piñon-juniper, and mixed conifer
Containment: 75%
Resources: 3 crew | 5 engines | 2 helicopters | 2 unmanned aircraft system | 2 water tenders | 1 dozer | 3 ambulance
Highlights: Containment has increased on the northern edge of the Laguna Fire. As interior fuels continue to be consumed, smoke may be visible in the area especially with higher winds and temperatures expected over the weekend. Both Gallina Ranch and the Monastery of Christ in the Desert have been reduce to READY status.
Fire Activity: Fire activity on the Laguna Fire remained minimal yesterday as crews completed several key objectives to strengthen containment and prepare for upcoming management transitions. Firefighters successfully completed repair work on both hand and dozer lines, and chipping operations are now finished. Aerial ignition operations earlier in the week effectively cleared out additional unburned fuels in the interior of the fire, further securing containment. The northern portion of the fire saw increased containment, and helicopters reinforced water contingency lines on the eastern edge along La Presa Canyon.
Residual smoke may continue to be visible in the Rio Gallina area and other low-lying canyons, especially with today’s sunny and dry conditions. Gallina Ranch has returned to “READY” status, and firefighting equipment will remain in place in the area as a precautionary measure. Crews continued road repair work on Forest Service Road 8 and are working with Resource Advisors on additional road restoration needs in the area. While active suppression is largely complete, firefighting crews will continue monitoring the fire, and helicopter bucket work may resume if needed.
Weather and Smoke: Temperatures will continue to climb, and humidity will remain low, creating dry conditions. Winds gust up to 20mph are possible from the west. As temperatures increase and fuels become drier, fire activity may increase in areas of unburned fuels, contributing to additional smoke production. Please use caution when driving in the area.
