“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:28 (ESV)
Life can throw things at us that make no sense at all. A sudden job loss, a diagnosis you weren’t expecting, a friendship that falls apart—these are not the things we would ever label as “good.” And yet, Romans 8:28 tells us that somehow, in the middle of all of it, God is working for our good.
That doesn’t mean everything that happens is good. Pain, heartbreak, and injustice are real. The promise here isn’t that life will be easy, but that nothing we face will be wasted. God has a way of taking the pieces we don’t understand and fitting them into a bigger picture we can’t yet see.
It’s important to notice who this promise is for. Paul says it’s “for those who love God” and “are called according to His purpose.” In other words, this isn’t just a motivational quote—it’s a truth meant for people who have put their trust in Him. If you’re following Christ, you can have confidence that God is actively involved in your story, even when you can’t see how it will turn out.
The “good” Paul is talking about isn’t just about our circumstances improving. It’s about God shaping us to become more like Jesus. Sometimes that shaping happens in the most uncomfortable seasons, but it’s in those moments that our faith grows, our character deepens, and we see God’s faithfulness more clearly.
So when life doesn’t make sense, remember—God hasn’t lost control. He’s weaving even the hardest parts of your life into something beautiful. You may not understand it now, but one day you’ll look back and see how it all fit into His perfect plan.
God bless you.
