In 2025, the pro-life movement has made significant VICTORIES, with at least 33 Planned Parenthood facilities closing across states like California, Illinois, Texas, Iowa, and others.
These closures stem from years of financial pressure driven by state-level Medicaid bans, such as South Carolina’s—upheld by the Supreme Court in June 2025—and Title X funding rules that rightfully limit forced taxpayer funding for abortion providers. Rising operational costs and state abortion bans in places like Texas have further weakened Planned Parenthood’s network, forcing closures even in states like California.
While the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, signed July 4, 2025, aimed to cut Medicaid reimbursements to abortion providers, a federal injunction issued on July 28, 2025, has temporarily blocked this measure. Planned Parenthood is citing the pending federal Medicaid cuts, pre-existing defunding efforts, and operational challenges.
What About New Mexico?
Here in New Mexico, however, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and radical pro-abortion Democrat legislators continue to prioritize funding elective abortions over genuine healthcare solutions.
While the pro-life movement celebrates the closure of 33 Planned Parenthood clinics across the nation—with more slated to come—the abortion lobby in New Mexico continues to expand with the help of pro-abortion Governor Lujan Grisham.
Recall in 2022, via an Executive Order, Lujan Grisham bypassed the democratic process and forced taxpayers to fund a $10 million abortion center in Doña Ana County. In this year’s legislative session, she secured ANOTHER $10 MILLION for a new “reproductive health clinic” in northern New Mexico (HB 450, March 2025).
“If Governor Lujan Grisham and radical pro-abortion Democrat legislators weren’t so eagerly handing over tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to fund elective abortions, they wouldn’t be crying about federal Medicaid cuts,” said Elisa Martinez, New Mexico Alliance for Life Executive Director. “New Mexico’s governor should focus on actual health care solutions for citizens instead of funding elective abortions for out-of-state women.”
While the governor laments the OBBBA’s $2.8 billion Medicaid cuts, which could threaten coverage for some New Mexicans, her focus on abortion diverts resources from critical needs like primary care and behavioral health for our residents. She has announced an upcoming special legislative session to address the Medicaid shortfall the state is now facing.
A State Battleground
These misplaced priorities make New Mexico a battleground for the abortion industry, despite no permanent Planned Parenthood closures reported here in 2025—though the Santa Fe clinic temporarily closed due to staffing shortages.
The 33 national closures show that financial and political pressure can work—even in radical pro-abortion states like California, where 6 Planned Parenthood clinics were forced to close.

ICYMI: NMAFL’s Decade of Impact
Ten years ago, NMAFL conducted a groundbreaking investigation into fetal tissue harvesting at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center (UNMHSC). Our findings exposed shockingly unethical, horrific, and potential illegal practices, resulting in major pro-life victories.
Learn more about our ground-breaking fetal tissue investigation in this video interview podcast with our partners at Pro-Life San Francisco.
Unethical Practices Uncovered
- UNMHSC used taxpayer dollars to fund malpractice insurance for Curtis Boyd, an elderly abortionist and “assistant professor” at UNM, despite his lack of board certification in obstetrics, gynecology, or family medicine—a violation of UNM’s own policies. Following NMAFL’s exposé, UNMHSC revoked Boyd’s assistant professor position.
Quid Pro Quo Arrangements
- UNM’s partnership with SWO ensured a steady supply of aborted fetal tissue for research, raising serious ethical and legal concerns.
Potential Legal Violations
- NMAFL uncovered SWO’s failure to obtain lawful informed consent from women regarding the use of their aborted babies’ organs and body parts for research, in potential violation of federal and state laws and human research protocols.
Pro-Life Victories
Through our relentless two-year investigation, strategic partnerships, and public advocacy—including partners like YOU—together we delivered results:
- UNMHSC terminated its resident abortion training program at SWO.
- UNMHSC ended its nearly 20-year fetal tissue harvesting and research program.
- Key figures retired, resigned, or moved—including former UNMHSC Chancellor Paul Roth, who retired early after being recorded admitting to the use of a 27-week aborted baby’s brain in a high school summer camp experiment. Researcher Robin Ohls was barred from her lab, and nearly all individuals tied to the program resigned, retired, or relocated.
- UNMHSC severed its scandalous partnership with SWO.
These victories highlight the power of truth, advocacy, and strategic partnerships with supporters like YOU.
