“By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.”
Genesis 2:2–3 (NIV)
Let’s get something straight right off the bat—God didn’t rest because He was tired.
He’s not like us. Yes, we’re made in His image, but He’s not human. He’s divine. He is Almighty God—eternal, limitless, full of glory and power. He never runs out of strength, never burns out, and never needs to catch His breath. He exists outside of time and outside of limits. He didn’t need to rest.
So why does the Bible say He did?
Because He was showing us what we need.
God paused—not out of exhaustion, but out of intention. He finished His work and then chose to rest. He blessed that day and made it holy. And in doing so, He built rest into the rhythm of life—not as an option or a luxury, but as a pattern for us to follow. A command. A gift. An example.
When we choose to rest—especially on Sundays—it’s not just a break from the grind. It’s a declaration of trust. It’s our way of saying, “God, I believe You can handle the things I’m letting go of.” That kind of rest becomes worship. It becomes obedience. It becomes an act of faith.
Because here’s the truth: God has never failed to provide for those who trust Him.
So let me ask you—when has obeying God ever left you lacking?
When has honoring His Word ever left you behind?
When has stepping back in faith ever ended with Him not showing up?
Exactly. He’s always provided.
That means when you put things down today—the emails, the projects, the pressure to keep going—you’re not falling behind. You’re stepping into alignment with God’s way of life. You’re saying, “I don’t trust in my own hustle. I trust in the hands of God.”
And here’s what we know for sure: God always honors that kind of trust.
So whatever it is you feel like has to be done today—give it to Him.
Whatever you’re afraid will slip through the cracks—put it in His hands.
Because He can do more in one day than you could ever do in seven on your own.
And if that sounds impossible—good. That’s exactly the kind of God He is.
Rest today.
Trust today.
Worship today.
He’s still working—especially when you’re not.
God bless you this Sunday.
