Take Action on HB 124 & SB 40 TODAY!

The 2026 Legislative Session has officially closed and together with our members, partner organizations, and YOU, we delivered powerful wins for all of New Mexico.

We organized, marched, rallied, testified, petitioned, phone banked, and showed up for our families winning all four priorities of the NM Immigrant Legislative Platform. Thank you to every one of our members, supporters, volunteers, allied organizations, leaders, and bill sponsors who stood with us. This session we proved once again that together WE HAVE POWER!

The Legislature delivered major wins for immigrant families and workers across New Mexico:

  • HB 9+ The Immigrant Safety Act
Bans 287(g) agreements (the “plus”) and immigrant detention contracts between counties and ICE, ensuring state and local resources protect families instead of separating them.
  • SB 40 Driver Privacy and Safety Act
Decreases immigration arrests by limiting the use of automatic license plate readers for immigration enforcement and safeguarding personal driver information.
  • HB 124 Office of New Americans
Creates a permanent Office of New Americans at the Department of Workforce Solutions to expand access to job training, workforce programs, and economic opportunity for immigrant families.
  • $3.25 Million to Support Workers in Training
$3.25 million for free High School Equivalency exams and for NM Ascend, a supplemental income pilot for New Mexicans in workforce development programs. This funding ensures more access to job training, credentialing programs, and workforce pathways for immigrant and low-wage workers.

These wins reflect years of organizing and leadership from our communities across our state. But we are not finished yet! Both SB 40 and HB 124 have passed both chambers and now await the signature of Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, so please call her office ASAP at (505) 476-2200 and urge her to sign.
