Strengthening Families in Challenging Times

Last night, the Albuquerque City Council rejected a proposed increase in the city’s gross receipts tax. Had it passed, the measure would have increased costs on everyday purchases at a time when many New Mexico families are already feeling stretched by rising housing, food, childcare, and utility expenses.

Scripture consistently calls us to care for families and to seek the well-being of our communities. As pastors, you see firsthand the challenges many families face as they work to make ends meet, raise children, and build strong homes.

The pressures on families just seem to continue to grow. That is why it is so important for the Church to remain a place of support, encouragement, and practical help.

Building a Community Where Families Thrive

One example of that commitment is our Family Fun Fest, taking place on July 18.

Family Fun Fest is a free community event created to serve and celebrate New Mexico families. Families will enjoy food, activities, and community resources, while children receive free backpacks and school supplies to help them start the school year strong.

While many institutions talk about helping families, events like these provide a tangible opportunity to do it. Churches, ministries, businesses, and community organizations are coming together to meet practical needs and remind families that they are not alone.
