10 Simple Fall Date Ideas for Couples

Fall has a way of making us want to slow down a little. The cooler weather, changing leaves, warm drinks, and shorter days create a great opportunity for couples to step away from the normal routine and spend some intentional time together.

And a good date doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated. Sometimes the best thing you can do is simply make time for each other.

Inspired by FamilyLife’s 10 Fun Fall Date Ideas for Couples, here are a few ways couples can reconnect and enjoy the season together.

1. Visit an Apple Orchard or Pumpkin Patch

Take an afternoon and head somewhere that feels like fall. Walk through an orchard, pick out a pumpkin, grab something good to eat, and enjoy being somewhere different together. The activity itself isn’t really the point—the time together is.

2. Find a Great Place to Watch the Sunset

Grab a blanket, coffee or hot chocolate, and find a good view. Put the phones away for a while and simply watch the sun go down together. Sometimes slowing down creates the best conversations.

3. Take a Fall Hike or Walk

You don’t need an extreme hiking trail. Find a walking path, park, or scenic area and enjoy the changing colors and cooler temperatures. Getting outside together gives you a chance to talk without all the distractions waiting at home.

4. Have a Campfire and Make S’mores

If you have access to a firepit, make an evening out of it. Sit around the fire, make some s’mores, and talk. No firepit? You can still make s’mores inside and create your own version of the evening at home.

5. Go Coffee-Shop Hopping

Instead of visiting just one coffee shop, make a morning out of trying two or three. Split a drink or pastry at each stop and decide which place wins. You get a date, a little competition, and probably enough caffeine to accomplish absolutely everything you’ve been putting off.

6. Have a Movie Night at Home

Not every date requires leaving the house. Pick a few movies that remind you of fall, make some popcorn, order dinner, get comfortable, and have a movie marathon together.

7. Visit a Farmers Market or Fall Festival

Fall usually brings plenty of markets, festivals, craft fairs, and community events. Walk around, try some food, support local vendors, and enjoy having nowhere you have to rush off to next.

8. Try a Corn Maze

A corn maze gives you plenty of time together—and possibly an opportunity to discover which one of you should never be trusted with directions. Either way, getting a little lost together can make for a memorable fall afternoon.

9. Watch a Football Game Together

If football is something you both enjoy, make a date out of it. Go to a local high school or college game, catch a professional game if you have the opportunity, or make your favorite food and watch from home.

10. Sit Down and Talk About Your Future

This might be the simplest idea on the list, but it could also be the most meaningful.

Sit outside with a cup of coffee and talk about where you’re headed together. What are you looking forward to? What are you praying about? What dreams have you stopped talking about because life became busy?

Then take a few minutes and pray together.

The Point Is Being Intentional

Dating your spouse isn’t really about where you go or how much money you spend. It’s about intentionally choosing one another in the middle of work, responsibilities, kids, schedules, and everything else competing for your attention.

You don’t have to complete all ten ideas. Pick one. Put it on the calendar. And enjoy some time together this fall.
