The visiting St. Michael’s girls soccer team came away with their third-straight shutout

The visiting St. Michael’s girls soccer team made quick work of East Mountain by scoring six times in the first half on the way to 10-0 zip in the District 2-3A match played at Sandia Park Tuesday, and it was St. Michael’s third-straight shutout.

It brought the Lady Horsemen’s overall record to 4-0-1 and district mark to 2-2 and dropped the Timberwolves to 3-3 overall in a contest in which they made only two stops in the mercy-rule contest.

The scoring began in the third minute on an assisted goal from senior Rachel Morgan to sophomore Elsa Panney Smith, her first of three goals, one more then Morgan. Next, it was senior Francis Schneider with an unassisted goal, and Morgan followed by a pass from freshman Grace Schneider to finish her scoring for the day. One goal each came from sophomore Jacqueline Gorman, Sandoval, senior Olivia Farrah, and goalkeeper Milena Keene, who also played in the field.

Said first-year head coach Alfonso Camarema: “We have a solid goalie, a well-conditioned defensive system, we are dynamic and well in control midfield, with good speed and good technic.”

He added that the pitch wasn’t in good condition, that it was somewhat windy, but a good day for soccer.

St. Michael’s next stop is at Monte del Sol in Santa Fe.
