Santa Fe National Forest Closed Beginning Thursday, May 19 at 8 a.m.

SANTA FE, May 18 – The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) will implement a forest-wide closure order at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 19, 2022, prohibiting public access across the entire 1.6-million-acre forest due to active wildfires and extreme fire danger. The closure order will remain in effect until December 31, 2022, unless it is rescinded earlier.

The City of Santa Fe also has a city-wide ban on the use or sale of fireworks in place, as well as the following fire restrictions:
• Open burning, including campfires, bonfires, pit barbecues;
• Burning of weeds, trash, or other vegetation;
• Using charcoal barbecue grills in public parks and recreation
areas;
• Smoking in public parks, recreation areas, or on any public trail;
• Using any motorized all-terrain vehicle or motorcycles on city
owned open space, parks, trails, or other recreational areas,
Residents are urged to abide by the fire restrictions and to take the necessary steps to both prevent wildfires, and prepare themselves in the event of a fire emergency. The City has a webpage with tips for preventing fires and resources for preparation here.
