NM HS BASKETBALL

By Arnie Leshin
It was four days before Christmas, a snowy morning at the Clovis Invitational and the Robertson girl’s basketball team was about to taste its first and only defeat, a 54-40 setback to 5A Las Cruces Centennial.

From there, the Cards have sprung together a 17-game winning streak, the latest was Tuesday night‘s 38-27 triumph over visiting Indian School that dropped the Braves to 9-14 overall and 3-3 in district.

In other girl’s games, Santa Fe High hit the road to hand District 5-5A opponent Los Lunas a 51-34 setback. It put the Demonettes at 9-14overall and 4-3 in district.

Then there was Capital in 5-5A losing 66-25 at Albuquerque High to fall to 6-17 overall and 4-3 in district.
In boy’s play, Robertson hit the road to turn back Indian School, 65-56, in overtime.
It was the fourth straight win for the Cardinals, put them at 20-3 overall and 6-1 in district, a half-game ahead of St. Michael’s who they play at home Friday night.
Robertson led 16-11 after one quarter and 29-28 at halftime, but the Braves took the lead 52-49 after three quarters only to have the Cardinals force a 49-all deadlock after regulation. In the overtime, the Cardinals took charge,16-7, to claim the win as Indian School  fell to 15-8 overall and 3-4 in district.

The Braves head up to district rival Raton Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. contest.

Tierra Entranda handed Entrada a 2-0 forfeit, and for some reason is home today versus Albuquerque Menaul.
