By Arnie Leshin
It didn’t take long for defending state champion Robertson to carve out Saturday’s 63-37 girls basketball win over visiting St. Michael’s in District 2-3A play.

The Cardinals, now 23-1 and whose only loss was to 5A Las Cruces Centennial back in the Clovis tournament in January, cruised to a 23-5 lead after one quarter, 40-10, at halftime, 57-21, after the quarters, and then emptied the bench as the Lady Horsemen had a 16-6 advantage in the final eight minutes.

It put Robertson at 6-0 in district play and dropped St.Michael’s to 16-8 overall and 4-2 in district. Senior Jacquelyn Gorman was high scorer for the Lady Horsemen with 11 points.

St. Michael’s plays district rival West Las Vegas Tuesday and the Cards head up to Raton the same day.

Santa Fe High’s girls also fell via a 59-29 defeat to visiting Albuquerque Manzano in District 5-5A play. The Demonettes fell
to 9-15 overall and 4-4 in district as the Monarchs opened up a 16-5 lead after the first quarter, and upped it to 29-9 at the intermission.

After three quarters, the lead mounted to 43-19, and Santa Fe High was outscored only 15-14 in the fourth quarter.
In another girl’s game, Santa Fe Indian School hit the road to district foe Raton and romped 51-12. It advanced the Braves to 18-6 overall and 4-3 in district.

And in 2-2A, Pecos dropped a 44-32 contest to visiting Santa Rosa.

In boy’s play, Pecos visited Santa Rosa in 2-2A and came away with a 70-58 win for its seventh straight victory, and is now 21-3 overall and 4-0 in district.

Then there was Indian School turning back visiting Raton in 2-3A, 56-41, to up its overall mark to 16-8 and even its district record at 4-4
