NEW MEXICO HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL

By Arnie Leshin
It was a split for St. Michael’s Thursday afternoon at its Christian Brothers Athletic Complex via non-district visits from Albuquerque Hope Christian.

The Lady Horsemen had an easy time playing three innings in a 14-0 softball romp, their initial shutout of the season. The mercy-rule was applied as the home side improved to 5-7 overall.

Freshman pitcher Kianna Trujillo tossed up a 2-hitter for St. Michael’s while striking out two and walking three. Her hit parade behind her came away with 11 safeties and added four walks.

It was a six-run third inning that brought the 15-run, three-inning stoppage.

Senior Carmen Pacheco had a 2-for-3 game and drove home five runs while scoring one herself.

Junior Mia Duran went 3-for-3, scored three times and drove in a run, while senior Lauren Pecos added a double, triple to go with two ribbies and a pair of runs scored.

Joe Alvarez’ team had won three of its first four before dropping seven in a row, now it’s won two straight and plays a Class 2-3A doubleheader at Robertson Saturday afternoon.

The Horsemen baseball team fell to 7-6 overall with a 4-0 setback to the Huskies.

Except for a 4-run Hope second inning, it was a scoreless contest, with the visitors collecting five hits and committing four errors. St. Michael’s came away with four safeties and a pair of miscues.
