It was close due to early scoring, but Bernalillo squeezed out a 5-4 non-district victory over visiting West Las Vegas in Wednesday’s softball play.
Now 11-7 overall, Bernalillo gave up three runs in the top of the first, scored two of its own in the bottom half, and tied it after two innings. Then, after the Dons went in front with a third-inning run, back came the home side with a pair of runs that dropped WLV to 6-4 overall.
In other games, 2-4A play had Espanola Valley claim a 13-6 win at Pojoaque Valley to advance to 6-11 overall and 2-4 in district, and at Taos in 2-4A, it was a 14-6 setback against Moriarty to put the Pintos at 13-2 overall and unbeaten in five district games.
As for the Sundevils, they made a romp of it with four first-inning runs, six more in the second, and one each in the third, sixth and seventh. They have now scored 113 runs and given up 176.
The Elks, at 4-12 overall and 1-4 in district, tallied twice in the third, sixth and seventh frames to drop to 4-12 overall and 1-4 in district. They have scored 76 times and allowed 187.
Moriarty came up with five runs in the third, four in the fourths, two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh. It has now scored 200 runs and allowed 70.
Taos is 3-12 overall, 1-5 in district, and has tallied 98 times and yielded 156. It scored once in the third, three in the fourth, and two more in the fifth.
