In 1976, four terrorists boarded an Air France airliner in Paris and hijacked the plane.
After refueling in Benghazi, Libya, they landed the plane almost 24 hours later in Entebbe, Uganda, where some passengers were permitted to disembark. But Jewish and Israeli passengers, as well as anyone suspected of being Israelis, were separated from the other passengers in a method reminiscent of Nazi selection processes. Notably, the plane’s crew refused to be separated from their Jewish and Israeli passengers.
Giving Israel 48 hours to comply, the terrorists threatened to execute the plane’s remaining 94 passengers and 12 crew members unless they received a ransom of $5 million and secured the release of 40 convicted terrorists.
