Think Before You Drink: County Launches Summer DWI Prevention Campaign

Summer 25 DWI Campaing

Santa Fe, NM – In an ongoing effort to enhance public safety and reduce incidents of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), the Santa Fe County DWI Prevention Program is proud to announce the launch of its annual Summer Bar and Restaurant Campaign.

This seasonal public awareness initiative partners with local bars, restaurants, liquor stores, cannabis dispensaries, and coffee shops to spread a powerful message: “Alcohol Can Be the Bite That Poisons Your Choices.” Designed by Firestik Studios, this year’s campaign features a striking image of a rattlesnake wrapped around an alcohol bottle—symbolizing the danger and toxicity that drinking and driving can bring to people’s lives.

Additionally, the campaign continues to promote the “Take a Ride on Us” program, which offers safe ride options to help prevent impaired driving. As summer approaches and our city’s nightlife and restaurants attract more residents and visitors, it’s important to remember the dangers of drinking and driving. The Santa Fe County DWI Prevention Program encourages everyone to plan and choose a safe ride home to avoid the serious consequences of impaired driving.

The campaign will run throughout the summer and utilize a variety of outreach strategies, including:

Educational displays at participating establishments, social media awareness efforts, and community events promote safe and responsible fun.

“We are truly grateful for the ongoing support of our local businesses and community members,” said Chanelle Delgado, Youth Services Administrative Program Manager. “Together, we can help reduce DWI incidents and make Santa Fe County a safer place for everyone.”

Let’s make this summer safe and enjoyable—plan ahead, drink responsibly, and help us spread the word.
