Our hearts are heavy today. Grieving for Charlie Kirk, his family, and our nation.
Charlie’s murder is a reminder of the real and relentless attacks faced by those who boldly stand for faith, family, and freedom in this country.
His death is the headline right now, but this isn’t the first violence our movement has experienced, and certainly not the first way in which we have been targeted.
As the “trade association” for socially conservative organizations like the Turning Points, the Heritages, the Focus on the Families, and especially the network of state-based Family Policy Councils we host, we represent you. We are nationwide and also local. We are working with tens of thousands of churches to reach millions of people each week. We will not be silenced.
It did not work when Family Research Council’s building was breached by a shooter, or Wisconsin Family Council’s office was firebombed. It did not work when the Family Foundation was kicked out of a Virginia restaurant for our faith, when we were debanked, cancelled from insurance, and stripped of basic technology.
It did not work when the IRS denied the tax-exempt status of our sister ministry Christians Engaged, or when New York’s attorney general put the leader of New York Families Foundation in jail for his pro-life convictions.
The Charlie Kirk I personally knew always stood by me and the other social-conservative groups we bring together at FPA—even on the difficult issues. While I led at Prison Fellowship, Charlie took a bold stand for the least of us in helping pass the First Step Act. The liberal media won’t remind you of that side of his heart.
Charlie was preparing to join us for America Reads the Bible next year, but not as a VIP reader. He had already humbly signed up just like so many of you have because he wasn’t just a leader in our movement, he participated in our work. Though he now rests with our Savior in heaven, we remain committed to advancing the biblical values he lived and died for.
As we lift up Charlie’s family and his organization Turning Point USA, we also ask you to pray for our movement and all who continue standing together for Truth, trusting God to strengthen and protect us all.
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” (John 1:5).
