New Mexicans Forced to Fund Abortion—No Matter What

Earlier this month, a U.S. appeals court allowed the Trump administration to block federal Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion corporation, while legal challenges move forward. This is a tremendous victory, as taxpayers were previously forced to fund the abortion giant to the tune of $800 million in 2022 alone—over a third of its budget.

 

It’s a dirty secret abortion allies have exploited for years. Despite Hyde Amendment protections prohibiting federal abortion payments, funding was funneled into sexual health clinics that perform abortions like Planned Parenthood.

 

NEW MEXICANS FORCE TO FUND PP AN ADDITIONAL $3 MILLION

Sadly, New Mexico’s pro-abortion Gov. Lujan Grisham rushed to the abortion giant’s defense, promising to fill the gap by forcing New Mexicans to fund an additional $3 million annually for Planned Parenthood to remain operational. State lawmakers are gearing up for a fight on this very issue in the upcoming 3-day special session starting October 1, 2025. Stay tuned for exclusive updates on the special session from NMAFL.

New Mexico is one of 17 states that ALREADY forces its taxpayers to fund abortions through the state’s Medicaid program—a measure never democratically enacted, but rather imposed upon the people via judicial fiat in a 1999 state Supreme Court ruling.

 

The New Mexico Alliance for Life estimates that New Mexicans are forced to fund the abortion industry nearly $16 MILLION in 2024 alone. This includes payments made to cover abortions for illegal immigrants and out-of-state residents. *Based on data compiled by NMAFL from the New Mexico Health Care Authority, Legislative Finance Committee reports, and the governor’s budget documents.

 

“It’s disgusting that Planned Parenthood—the abortion industry’s profit machine—distracts from its core business of killing innocent babies in the womb by hyping up its so-called ‘other services.’ Newsflash: Those routine checkups, STI tests, and cancer screenings? They’re available at every legitimate community health clinic that doesn’t rake in millions from ending lives,” said NMAFL Executive Director Elisa Martinez.
