Borderland Bebidas

Borderland Bebidas

In “Borderland Bebidas,” a story that is both memoir and an inventory of traditional drinks,
Denise Chávez celebrates the grandmother of pots and pans: the olla.
Her exploration of bebidas fronterizas—fermented and smoky, sweet and creamy—reveals a history
of clay pot brewing that transcends boundaries, melds cultures, and brings people together.
She offers recipes featuring ingredients beloved to her hometown on the US–México border.

Cooking Fresh: Early Winter Edition

The pots and pans featured in our Early Winter edition of Cooking Fresh have lasted for a very long time,
and if properly cared for, will last for years to come.
These Sumac-Roasted Delicata Squash Focaccia rolls use a trusty old muffin tin for a creative twist
on popular sheet-pan focaccias, turning the bread into a canvas for seasonal produce.

This version features delicata squash and shallots roasted with tangy sumac, finished with a drizzle
of good olive oil to bring everything together.

The Indigenous Farm Hub

The Indigenous Farm Hub (IFH) cultivates seventeen acres in Corrales, providing fresh produce to 140 families
through its CSA program. More than a farm, it serves as a hub for learning, community growth, and prosperity building.

Former farm-to-school education coordinator Rebecca Grashuis shared,
“A lot of times, farming is taken as unskilled labor, whereas it’s highly skilled.
If we can start to allocate value to our food systems and to the importance of building resiliency within communities,
especially through food, then we can start to see some really lasting change in our health and our connection to each other as people.”
